Many Brits, particularly office workers and foodies in search of a quick, affordable bite, often opt for asupermarket meal deal for lunch. The opportunity to buy a main, snack, and drink at a lower cost than purchasing each item separately can be a real money-saver.
While meal deals are predominantly a UK phenomenon, similar promotions or ready-to-eat food items can be found in shops in other countries. This was something Manchester-based British couple Keely and Rebecca discovered during their travels from North to South America. The pair shared their experience on TikTok, filming a video in an American grocery store where they had stopped for lunch.
Rebecca asked if Keely fancied a sandwich before unveiling a massive sub filled with meat, cheese, and lettuce that she found on the Safeway store shelf for £6.01 ($7.99).

Keely was taken aback by the sheer size of the sandwich, exclaiming: "What the heck."
She then had a look at the other colossal sandwiches available, and they were very different from those typically found in UK supermarkets.
Options included a turkey bacon croissant, a chicken chipotle sandwich wrap, and a chicken Caesar wrap.
Exiting the shop with the enormous sandwich in hand, the couple prepared to dig in.
Once seated on a bench, Keely unwrapped the hefty sub, needing both hands to hold it up.
She had to take a big bite to get through the thick sandwich and its generous filling. Over the TikTok clip, the couple wrote: "Meal deals in the US hit differently."
In the caption, they questioned the sandwich’s massive size, joking it could "feed a family of four".
The video has amassed a staggering 1.6 million views and thousands of comments from shocked viewers.
One person said: "That simply CANNOT be intended for just one person!?! It's a physical impossibility!!"
Another viewer was left questioning reality, asking: "I'm shaking, is this real?" A third user joked: "Sandwich?? That's a whole loaf of bread and the entire deli aisle."
One person was impressed by the price, commenting: "For $7.99 as well - seems like a DEAL." Someone else asked for some local insight, saying: "Could an American comment and let us know if this is for one person?"
An American viewer clarified: "It's not. It's supposed to be cut and shared with many people. Like at a party or picnic or something."
A second user added: "Comments are wild. This is obviously a shared sandwich.
"Lots of people in the states will grab a couple of those (slice them up), some sides and a dessert for when people come over."
